During a leisurely drive to Enosburg Falls, Vermont, Amelia and I decided to explore the northern reaches of the state, nearly crossing into Canada, purely by accident. Amidst the scenic landscapes, we stumbled upon an old farm tractor, rusting gracefully against the backdrop of wide-open fields and distant mountains. This unintentional detour led us to capture the essence of rural Vermont, with the tractor symbolizing the timeless persistence of agricultural life on the borderlands. This photograph captured a serene moment where nature and history converge, illustrating the beauty often found in spontaneous journeys.

There must be a story of how that tractor came to be there and why it’s been left for so long. It’s something that once changed the landscape and is now part of the landscape.
Amelia and I had to find some place to turn around, as we were rapidly approaching the border with Canada. There was a farmer who was working in a barn, completely aware of our presence, and arguably was accustomed to people using the property to turn around. Amelia and I were curious about the history of the tractor, yet we didn’t want to overstay our welcome.
