The Pines Hotel, South Fallsburg, New York
May 2014
The Pines Hotel once included an ice skating rink, movie theater, golf course, baseball field, conference center, both indoor and outdoor pools, and a ski resort. It was built in 1933, and closed in 1998. The video at the top was found on a VHS tape found left behind on the site, with credit for the find going to AllAbandoned.com.
This hotel years ago had good recognition and many places of leisure today there is nothing left of what it was, it is sad to see that now it is a refuge for rodents and vagabonds.
This just looks like an abandoned mess or a building past its prime to be real here. However as I said it being a building means it can be fix and polished back into shape. As of now though a hotel no. If anything this looks like a prison camp than anything else.
I really feel bad for the current state of this hotel , what a mess. I wish this can have life again. So many facilities abandoned.
This damage is just too much, it will cost alot to put it in shape. What a wasted investment.
The state of this hotel is really appalling. So much mess going on already. This really need a total overhauling.
Looks like it was a nice place. On the other hand, everything that has a beginning has an end.
Oh wow, the place looks in very bad condition. I’m sure it was a great place in the past, it´s a shame that it didn’t get restored on time.
The place has all the basic amenities for their clients. I really clients who stayed on this place had good memories of it.
Interesting duality here! The top right building looks refurbished while the top left looks disheveled. The video and documentation is really excellent as well. I feel like we really get an inside feel for the Pines Hotel based on all the commentary of its lectures, dancing, shows, skiing and other activities. The mirror, graffiti and ice rink are amazing snapshots. It makes me sad that there was so much invested in the hotel before it’s meltdown.

Pine hotel having it all that it needed to make a customer comfortable and satisfied. I like this because I ike hotels with massive amenities
Looking at the video, it’s hard to believe that this place, once a thriving resort, would fall into abandonment and decay. According to a little research I did, the hotel encountered many problems in 1998, about a year after the Asian financial crisis. Changing trends probably led to many hotels and businesses closing down, and this year is no different.
It’s still a pity. It had a lot to offer, way back in its heyday. I might have visited it, if I had the chance.
It was a classy hotel in every sense of the word. It pains me to see it in this state.
You documented the hotel perfectly. I feel like I was there myself.
Why does the hotel look vandalized? What a waste!
It was such a big hotel. I wish I could see what it looked like while still new.
The Pines hotel is worth restoring. It holds a very important historical heritage.
Imagine how much mopney went into building the hotel. All that gone down the drain just like that 🙁
This was a massive undertaking. Photographing the entire hotel couldn’t have been easy.
Doing a full restoration of this hotel would cost a fortune. I am saddened to see it like this.
I can’t believe the hotel was built in 1933. That’s even older than my granddad haha.
The Pines hotel boasted a ton of amenities. Even by today’s standards, it is still a stand out hotel.
I appreciate the time you took to document the Pines hotel. This is a good way to preserve history.
